Exposing youth in the community to professional dance

Outreach

Dance Canvas works in partnership with community and non-profit partners to provide dance enrichment, after-school and summer programs for youth, ages 5-12 years old. Since 2010, we have been providing dance programs for the City of Atlanta's Department of Recreation through the Centers of Hope program. Since 2010, we have worked hands-on with over 500 students at 6 recreation centers in metro Atlanta.

In addition to the Department of Recreation, we have created dance programs for Usher's New Look Foundation, The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, and Cool Girls, Inc.

Combined efforts to bring arts to the next generation

Partnerships

Dance Canvas works with other organization to build strong dance programs for the community and youth. Our focus is on the career development of young artists. Our partnerships currently include CATALYST, a career building, training and mentoring program for Black Ballet dancers in partnership with Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre, and Gwinnett Dance Day, a free day of dance for the Gwinnett County Public School System. We enjoy collaboration, and know that together, we can make a strong, healthy, vibrant community of artists and arts patrons.

Bringing dance to schools and schools to dance

Field Trips & Workshops

Dance Canvas opens our performances for our partner high schools to bring students to a live production. We also offer teachers study guides and we provide students with fun critique contests during the performance. We also provide ways for schools to "get to know" our artists through invited lunches and guest dance classes at the schools.

For more info on our field trips or to book a workshop,

Teaching Success both "Onstage & Backstage"

DC NEXT

Our DC NEXT program has provided students with skills needed for success in the next steps in their careers. For over 10 years, we have held a 3-4 week summer intensive, which not only offers dance classes, but also career building classes in Auditioning, Personal Branding, College choices, Goal Setting, and more. Our DC NEXT alumni have gone on to dance and choreograph professionally, work for dance organizations, and teach at colleges and universities across the country.
